Exam Attack Plan – Part II

By now, you should have your 3-step plan of attack set up. You should have determined exactly when your target test date is as well. Now you need to get started.

The first thing you need to do when planning out your test strategy is to start by learning the basics. This includes learning what the test covers! There’s absolutely no use studying what isn’t going to be on the exam. If trigonometry isn’t going to be covered, then don’t even think about this subject. You don’t have time to waste.

You may be familiar with the rule of 80/20 otherwise known as Pareto’s law. If not, please allow me to explain. Pareto was an economist who established that 80% of the land in Italy was owned by 20% of the population.

I can hear you asking ‘what’s this got to do with taking a test?’

Well, generally speaking, the rule states that 80% of the objectives are achieved with 20% of the effort…

Can you imagine, almost everything you need to get done can be finished with very little time (if you’re focused). And Pareto’s law of 80/20 holds true with all sorts of things. And so does its opposite.

What you don’t want to happen is for only 20% of your study time to cover what’s on the test while the other 80% is wasted. If so, that means only 20% of the time you study is worth anything as far as your final test score is concerned. That really isn’t my idea of time well spent.

So what you need to do before you start anything else is get familiar with what the test covers.

Hint … there’s usually a reason why good test prep materials are so expensive.

They know what’s on the test. If you purchase good test prep materials then you can maximize your study time instead of wasting it. If you can purchase a quality test prep course or even just a reputable book or inexpensive study tool of some sort, you’ll be way ahead of the game.

We’ve included a list of resources for study materials on our site, which you can visit here … Test Prep Guides.

If you don’t want to spend a whole lot of money, then you can make your own list of the topics that will be covered on the exam.

We have put together a few checklists all ready for you for a few of the most popular exams. Please visit us at our ExamToolkits.com Checklist webpage to find out if we have a checklist you can use. They are completely free to you.

If we have your test in checklist format then please feel free to download and print it out. If we don’t, then let us know that you’re interested by contacting us and we’ll try to put a checklist together for you.
